“As you follow the lantern of your costumed guide through the city streets,

let the darkness of the past envelope you. Thoroughly enjoy a highly entertaining rendition of Pembroke’s true tales of ghastly ghosts and grisly gallows, historical buildings and memorable

characters  of a bygone era, still eager to share their lives…”

Details

Hello and Welcome! Thank you for your interest in the tour!

The response over the first and second seasons has been fantastic. Please see the TESTIMONIALS section for more.

DESCRIPTION

On the tour, you are sure to receive a great evening's entertainment, learn A LOT about Pembroke's dark side, laugh many times...and remember it forever. (And...I have actually had more than 10 people say they want to go again! And two people actually have so far!)

Cold case files, ghosts, murder, confession, disease epidemics, jail breaks, hangings and so much more...

All the content of the tour is true, and based on extensive research from archives of the Pembroke Observer, Pembroke Bulletin, history books and personal interviews.  Pembroke Haunted History walking tour is indebted to many who helped unearth the precious information presented on the tour.  May our history never be lost.  With this in mind, partial proceeds go to the Champlain Trail Museum.

A historical walking tour is a unique adventure -

In the shadow of important heritage buildings, guests make a personal connection with those who lived and breathed here long ago , a glimpse into the past to be remembered, always...

BOOK NOW AND SEE WHAT EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT!

DISTANCE AND TIME:

The tour is between 1.5 and 2 hours long, depending on how fast the group walks and how many questions there are. It covers about 2 km (although it doesn't seem it!).  There are nine stops on the tour, with a chance to sit on a bench  or lawn at most. A few people have brought portable chairs along, which you may want to consider.

WHERE:

Tours begin at 400 Pembroke St. across the street from Dairy Queen in the long parking lot - please park vehicles against the building side of the lot (A big thank you goes to Nick's Pizza for the use of the parking lot.) Admission will be paid in the 10 minutes before the tour.

Your guide is not responsible for any injuries or accidents that may occur during Pembroke Haunted History walking tours.

BOOKING:

'Regular' tours or special private tours (for family, friends or staff) must be booked in advance by phone.  You will then receive a call close to the tour date to confirm your booking. Tours may be postponed due to weather (pouring rain!)

All tours during June, July and August begin at 7 pm, but start at 6 pm in September due to shortened daylight. Tours are capped at about 17-20 people, depending on size of the individual parties making up the tour.

AGE REQUIREMENT of  18 and up:

Although I tried hard last season to make the tour work as an all-ages family event, there are several reasons why I now make the tour available only to those 18 and up.

1) The tour content is mature (murders etc.).

2) The tour is designed as a completely satisfying evening of grown-up entertainment and education: lots of suspense, lots of historic detail, lots of well-researched historic context. Everyone raves about the tour at the end, and that is more important than anything else.

Said another way, the tour is too long  and too detailed for young teens and children. They become bored almost immediately and then become a distraction for people paying hard-earned money to take the tour.

3) Although I am aware you may believe your young teen or child will not get bored or tired and become a distraction, will love the tour because of his or her strong interest in true crime, ghosts etc. etc., please understand that I am 100 % firm on this. Thank you. The excellent quality of this tour for adults - in terms of undistracted dramatic storytelling, in terms of suspense, in terms of researched detail and context - takes precedence. Thanks again for your understanding!

Your place on a regular tour, or a special private tour booking, must be reserved by phone.  A special tour can be booked any non-regular night for 15 or more people - a great way to share a lasting memory with family, friends and neighbours OR provide a spine-tingling adventure for your out-of-town guests or hard-working staff! A special private tour can be booked at 7 pm or another time.

I hope to have you on the tour soon!
