Hello, and welcome.

It is my belief that a GREAT walking tour must have fantastic buildings, interesting tales and solid research --- but above all, it's ALL about the way the stories are crafted and told. It's about impressive storytelling that is a cut above. I am a professional educator and writer, and each tour I give is a performance that I take pride in - one you will not forget.

On the tour, you will receive a great evening's entertainment, learn A LOT about Pembroke's dark side, laugh many times, and remember it forever. (I have actually had many people say they want to go again - and several actually have.)

At each stop - in the shadow of many of Pembroke's most historic buildings - you will hear one or more enthralling stories of those who lived and breathed here long ago. Some of the tales are interconnected. Get ready to be chilled and amazed.

All the content of the tour is true, and based on extensive research from archives of the Pembroke Observer, Pembroke Bulletin, history books and personal interviews.

A historical walking tour is a unique adventure -

In the shadow of important heritage buildings, tour guests make a personal connection with those who lived and breathed here long ago , a glimpse into the past to be remembered...

DISTANCE AND TIME:

The tour is between 1.5 and 2 hours long, depending on how fast the group walks and how many questions there are. It covers about 2 km (although it doesn't seem it!).  There are eight stops on the tour, with a chance to sit on a bench  or lawn at most. A few people have brought portable chairs along, which you may want to consider.

WHERE:

Tours begin at 400 Pembroke St. across the street from Dairy Queen in the Service Canada parking lot - please park vehicles against the building side of the lot (A big thank you goes to Nick's Pizza for the use of the parking lot.) Admission will be paid in the 10 minutes before the tour by CASH (HST included).

Your guide is not responsible for any injuries or accidents that may occur during Pembroke Haunted History walking tours.

BOOKING:

Booking your tour (consider family, friends, visitors, co-workers, staff or any combination of these) or joining part of a tour must be done in advance by phone.  You will then receive a call close to the tour date to confirm your booking. Tours may be postponed due to pouring rain. Tours can be held during the day, but are usually in the evening, starting at 6:30 or 7 pm. Tours on weekdays will include an inside look at the Renfrew County Courthouse (historics jail cells etc.) at the end of the tour.

There are three booking possibilities. You can book your own tour of 20 or more people. (If you have more than 20, you as the organizer are thanked with free admission; please call me with a couple of possible dates.) If you have a group of 10-15, please call me and I will do my best to connect you with another similar group. Lastly, if there are only a few of you, please give me a call and I will add you to a list; when we have enough, we will have a tour.

AGE REQUIREMENT of  18 and up:

Although I've tried to make the tour work as an all-ages family event, there are several reasons why the tour is available for adults. These have to do with the tour content, which is to say the least, mature (murders etc.), and the design of the tour. The stories have been crafted to provide a completely satisfying evening of grown-up entertainment and education: lots of suspense, lots of historic detail, lots of well-researched historic context. Everyone raves about the tour at the end, and that is something to be treasured. Said another way, the tour is too long  and too detailed for young teens and children, who quickly become bored and very distracting (which will detract from the enjoyment of others on the tour). However, if you have a mature teen with a very keen interest in history and true crime whom you would like to bring, please do.

I hope to host your tour soon.
